Payroll FAQ
Payroll questions, answered
What deductions must Zambian employers make from salaries?
PAYE income tax (remitted to ZRA), NAPSA pension contributions of 5% from the employee and 5% from the employer up to the NAPSA ceiling, and NHIMA contributions of 1% from the employee and 1% from the employer. Employers also pay the 0.5% Skills Development Levy on gross emoluments.
When are PAYE, NAPSA and NHIMA due?
Payroll deductions are generally due by the 10th of the month after the salary month. We track every deadline so returns and payments are never late.
Do you calculate gratuity?
Yes. Under the Employment Code Act, employees on long-term (fixed-term) contracts are entitled to gratuity of at least 25% of the basic pay earned during the contract. We calculate and track gratuity accruals monthly.
How do you keep payroll confidential?
Only authorised payroll staff can access your data, files are stored securely, and payslips go directly to each employee.
How quickly can you start?
Most clients move to our payroll service within one payroll cycle once we have the employee master data and year-to-date figures.
